Check Out The Doubletime Website and Trailer

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

The Doubletime website is live. Stop by and check it out. It looks really cool. The website has some great pictures including some on the main page of USA Jump Rope All Star Tim Martin soaring through the air while doing a TJ. You can also read some of the background on the film and check out cast bios. They still do not list TV air date for the movie, but as soon as we find out when it will air, we will let you know.

Here is the trailer for Doubletime. It looks like a great film that you don’t want to miss.

Jump Rope Training - Learn How To Jump Like a Boxer

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Here on JRV we tend to focus a lot more on the sport of Jump Rope rather than jumping rope as a training tool for other sports. However, there are probably many more people that jump rope strictly for exercise than there are people who compete in jump rope tournaments. Jump Rope is an excellent training tool for all other sports. Boxers in particular love to use jump rope as part of their training. It’s quite simply the best exercise there is. It’s great for improving foot work and for conditioning arms and legs. Not to mention that it burns calories crazy fast.

This is a great video of a workout by Boxing expert Ross Enamait from RossTraining.com. In the article that accompanies this video, Ross gives some nice tips on rope selection. He suggests using wrist weights instead of weighted ropes. He also breaks down some of the tricks he does in the video. The aesthetics of these tricks aren’t important. This isn’t a jump rope tournament or a performance. The goal is to get an intense workout, not to make it look pretty. I don’t think I’ve seen a jump rope workout more intense than this.

This is guaranteed to melt some fat in a hurry:

Chinese Jump Rope Performance

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

This is a nice video of a team show performance by some kids from China. In a short amount of time they cover nearly every style of jumping rope. The start with a choreographed group single rope routine, then a do 2 person Chinese Wheel routine followed by some single rope freestyle. After that they do some traveler (2 people, only 1 person holding the rope). They also throw in some double dutch, some partner jumping, and even some long ropes before it is all over with.

Double Dutch Laser Show

Friday, May 18th, 2007

The Japanese are raising the bar on production values for Jump Rope performances. At this performance they even have a laser light show to accompany their Double Dutch choreography. Top that!

Double Dutch From France

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

One of the goals of JRV is to show people how popular Jump Rope is becoming. The International Rope Skipping Federation (IRSF) reports on their website that there are teams in at least 31 countries and more people are getting started in the sport all the time. Here at JRV we’ve already seen some great videos of jumpers from Belgium, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. Continuing with that global theme, here is a video by a very talented double dutch team from France.

Double Dutch In Nike Commercial

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Here’s another commercial with some Double Dutch in it. Japanese team Run-D-Crew appears in this video along with some very prominent sports stars. How would you like to say you were in the same commercial with NBA Superstar Lebron James and Golf pro Michelle Wie? You’ve got to admit that is pretty cool. It just goes to show you that a lot of opportunities are opening up for the top jumpers in our sport. Keep practicing!
