Cool Long Rope Tricks - Rope Skpping From Taiwan

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

In the sport of Jump Rope, we have several categories or styles of jumping. The two most common styles that most people are readily familiar with are Single Rope and Double Dutch. Other styles are well known within the sport, but are not commonly known to the general public. These include Chinese Wheel (2 people, 2 ropes, trading handles), Partner jumping (2 people, 1 rope), and Long Ropes (ropes greater than 20 feet in length). I often think that some of these styles end up taking a backseat to Single Rope and Double Dutch. Therefore it is great to see the occasional innovation in one of these styles. This group of jumpers from Taiwan does just that. They have a cool performance filled with several of these sometimes forgotten styles of jumping. Have you ever seen long rope tricks performed so fast?

Grand Central Station

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

The Grand Central Station may just be the hardest double dutch trick ever invented. Here is a video of it submitted by USA Jump Rope All Star Jeff Mauss. The Grand Central Station is the last trick in this sequence. You’ll know it when you see it. It is an amazing trick.

The jumpers are Jeff Mauss, Nick Woodard, Lee Reisig, Mike Fry, and Billy Jackson. The turners are Shane Winsor and Lisa Brown. Great trick guys!

JRV Move Update - The Return Of the Categories

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Whew! After another few hours of hard work, I’ve recategorized all of the videos that I moved over last night. I decided to change some of them slightly from the way they were on the old site. If you find anything that looks like it’s out of place or have any suggestions for new categories, please let me know. Hopefully it will be easier to find what you are looking for now. Also, I’ve found that the new search feature on this site is particularly useful. If you have any suggestions for ways to make this site more useful to you, I’d love to hear them.

JRV Move Update

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

As you know, JRV is in the process of moving from blogspot to jumpropevideos.com. So far so good. After several hours of hard work, I think I have successfully migrated all of the old content to the new server. Unfortunately, I have lost all of my tags in the process so those will need to be rebuilt by hand over the next few days. If you notice any broken links or any issues with the content, please let me know.

If you have any links to the old jumpropevideos.blogspot.com site, please update them to point to jumpropevideos.com.

You can expect this site to change a lot over the next couple of weeks as I tweak the layout and features on the site. If you have any suggestions for the site, hop on over to the forums and let me hear them.

Rope Skipping in the Vondelpark (Amsterdam)

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

This is a cool street performance in Amsterdam. If you’ve never done a street performance, you should give it a try. They are a ton of fun. It’s great to be that close to your audience and be able to interact with them and see their reactions up close. These guys rip through several styles of jumping including single rope, partner jumping with one rope, chinese wheel, and double dutch. They do a nice job playing to the growing crowd of people passing by. Fun stuff!

Cirque de UCLA

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Jump Ropers tend to be great performers. By the time most jumpers hit college, they have a lot of valuable experience under their belts from being in front of audiences and playing to the crowd. It’s no surprise that some jumpers gravitate to the performing arts, like Cirque du Soleil for example.

In this video, jumper Brian Singleton puts his performance experience to use at the 2006 UCLA Spring Sing. You can tell Brian is very comfortable hamming it up for the crowd. This is a very fun performance with a good sense of humor. The “glow rope” also adds a nice touch.
