More Double Dutch Insanity

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Here is another series of insane double dutch tricks for you to watch. I really like the way the video is edited to show us the same tricks several times in a row from different angles. Not to mention the tricks are spectacular. These guys do a basket toss over the turner and actually land it in the ropes like you’re supposed to. Very nicely done. I also really love the toe-pitch over the subway. That’s got to be a really scary (and dangerous) trick. Finally, they do an amazing variation on the subway. I know from experience how tough a standard subway can be to complete. They take a much harder version and make it look pretty easy. The jumpers do an excellent job, but if you want to know the real secret to landing the trick… watch the turners. They are excellent. You can’t do much in Double Dutch without good turners.

Another Sick Double Dutch Trick from Southern Camp Staff

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Here’s another sick Double Dutch trick from some of the staff at Southern Jump Rope camp. Southern camp has historically been a hotbed of innovation in jump rope. Several tricks have been invented just for the staff show that marks the last night of camp each year. That is where we did the very first Subway, where the Grand Central Station was created, and where this trick was performed.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

This video was submitted to us by Angela Martin of the Wall Street Journal Online. From the folks at WSJ Online:

To most people, jump-rope is what children do to pass time on playgrounds and street corners. But over the past decade, it has blossomed into an international sport, with hundreds of teams and thousands of global competitors. WSJ’s Jamin Brophy-Warren visits the North Carolina Bulldogs who think they have a shot at the Apollo Theater’s annual Double Dutch title, which has been dominated by the Japanese.

Be sure to check out the full article at the WSJ Online.
