Rope Show Episode 1 - Gig Cross

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I’m very happy to introduce the latest video project from USA Jump Rope All Star Lee Reisig. His video for “Welcome to Jumptown” is still one of my favorite videos we’ve shown on JRV. This is the first episode of “The Rope Show”. Lee plans to make this an on going series in which he will bring us “the latest in Jump Rope news, moves, demos, and challenges.” In episode 1 Lee introduces a 3-wheel technique called the “Gig Cross”.

One of the great things about Lee is his very analytical approach to Jump Rope. He’s great at breaking down skills and figuring out how they work. He can take a single technique and visualize how it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. To me that’s what it really takes to perform at a Masters level in this sport. You need a high “Jump IQ”. In my opinion, Lee’s Jump IQ is off the charts.

I asked Lee what we can look forward to in future episodes. He said that he has some footage from the US Trials and even some video of the “Deathwish” that Nick Woodard told us about last year.

If you have questions or ideas for Lee, leave your comments here and I’ll pass them along to him.

Super Fast Japanese Girl Jumping Rope

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

This video has been making the rounds on the internet recently. It’s from some Japanese TV show. This girl is super fast with a jump rope. She jumps the rope 151 times in 30 seconds. That’s 5 jumps a second. She’s the fastest I’ve seen jumping on both feet. Tori Boggs is capable of 6 jumps a second doing a speed step (alternating feet). The world record for 30 second speed is actually 190 jumps (6.3 jumps/sec ) and is held by Ben Hoste from Belgium. To me anything around 5 jumps/sec and up is pretty dang fast.

Vote For Your Favorite Jump Rope Videos

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Today we’re introducing a new feature here on JRV. You can now rate each post on the site. Therefore you can, in effect, vote for your favorite videos. Look for the stars at the bottom of each post and give a rating from 1 to 5 stars. The current top 10 videos will be displayed in the sidebar at the right of the main page on Jump Rope Videos. I encourage everyone who is a regular reader and viewer of JRV to go vote for your favorite videos. You are the experts that know the sport better than anyone, and you know what good jumping looks like. I think the highest rated list should reflect the collective wisdom of the worldwide jump rope community. So go dig through the archives and categories or just start at the begining and vote for your favorites.

Bouncing Bulldogs at the 2007 Double Dutch Holiday Classic

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Here is the Advanced Fusion routine from the Bouncing Bulldogs at the 2007 Double Dutch Holiday Classic. It’s a very impressive and extremely difficult routine. There are some extremely innovative double dutch tricks in this routine. The Bulldogs placed 4th in this event behind three Japanese teams. The misses clearly hurt their chances of winning the whole thing. I wonder how much higher they would have placed if they nailed it. Even with the misses, I’m blown away by what this team can do in the ropes.

Realism Double Dutch Style

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

This is a style of Double Dutch created by AKI that he calls “Realism”. The key here is that everyone, the jumper AND the turners, are “dancing” during the routine. Once again this proves to me that the variety of things you can do in jump rope is only limited by your imagination. Fun stuff!!
